Sunday 14th December – Windsurf *** River Orwell at Levinngton –
sunny.
Foil – 19.54 knot max, 17.88 knot ave., 9.70 knot hour, 16.15 knot
mile, 31.21 km., 13.63 knot alpha.
Starboard Freeride 150 (LW) and a Evolution Freeride foil with a Tushingham
Bolt 6.5m.
Levington windsurf.
I wanted to make the most of the moderate SW breeze and sunshine, with my
hands not great I am off open sea sailing until things warm up so I headed
over to Levington despite the tide not being great, an early high and
dropping. I arrived at the Marina before ten and the pipe had been removed
so I could back right up to the launch spot meaning no gear carrying today!
The wind looked marginal but I decided to set-up my lightweight board and
rigged my 6.5 and launched by the marina entrance and it took 10 tacks to
make deep water. It was a slow start the breeze did fill in and I had some
nice long runs from the corner down towards Pin Mill, nice to be out in the
sunshine, just me and the odd yacht. The wind eased so I called it a day
and headed in sailing straight back up the channel with the tide now really
low! My front nearside tyre was pretty flat when I set off but lucky for me
it had not gone down anymore so I could get home with no problems!
Helmingham Hall lightshow walk:)
Our son Daniel had treated us to tickets to see the lights at the lovely
Helmingham hall so I got home from my windsurf in plenty of time as we were
being picked up around 4 with Maeva pleased to see us. We arrived at the
hall just before 5 and the parkland looked great with the odd tree lite up,
with an old fashion carousel with brilliant up and down horses which really
got you in the mood for a great night! You start the guided trail near the
small pond and are treated to some amazing coloured trees, I had taken my
tripod hoping for some decent shoots, the breeze did nit help as it caused
movement in the trees and ribbles in the moat, it was chilly too, I should
have taken my coat as a fleece was not enough! We got a great view of the
large mansion covered in red hearts seen through an arch of hearts! It is a
bit of a pain setting up the tripod for night pics but I did get some nice
photos, getting pics of people is changing sometimes and a top mobile makes
things easy and Jay got some great pics! They have opened up the centre
courtyard of the house eccessed across a drawbridge to find a huge
Christmas tree, a glass of mulled wine was included in the entry which we
enjoyed with a bag of yummy candied almonds which we enjoyed after taking a
group pic on a special seat which came out really well! The walk continued
with many many different lights including smoke filled bubbles, Maeva loved
her heart shape light that Grany bought and it framed her face perfectly!
The long light arch was just brilliant which lead to the seated area under
canvas where the food venders were set-up. We treated everyone to tea, we
had a huge hot dog with cheesy chips while Dan and Jay had a large box of
Burrito with plain chips for Maeva:) After a round of drinks which included
hot chocote as by this point we were frozen! We were near the end now and
reached the stables via an avenue of trees changing colour to the sound of
music. We spent ages in the shop with several outlets selling crafty stuff!
Maeva then had ago on the round about which she loved and I managed to get
some cracking pics despite it going round really fast! So that was the end
of a fantastic night as we got in the car to warm up, we spotted 3 tractors
covered in Christmas lights, coming from a procession in Woodbridge with
170 tractors taking part!
